Product overview

What is PE Coated Cupstock?

PE extrusion coating adds the functional liquid and grease barrier required by many paper-cup structures. Single-side PE is used where one principal barrier surface is needed, while double-side PE can be selected where both faces require moisture protection or where external condensation is a concern.

Final construction should always be chosen around the cup type, beverage temperature, forming line and sealing process rather than by a universal rule.

Material direction

Define the contact condition first.

Confirm food type, contact time, temperature, barrier and the full coating or laminate construction.

Material highlights

  • Base paper + PE coat weight must be shown separately; product-specific food-contact documentation required
  • Reels / sheets / custom coating specification

Typical applications

  • Paper cups and food-service packaging

Coating and converting

The current commercial program commonly uses 160–230 gsm cupstock base paper with 10–20 gsm PE per coated side. Single- and double-side structures are available.

Slitting, cup-body and bottom-stock sizing, cup-fan cutting and up to six-colour printing can be discussed for the finished cup design.

Food contact and exterior finishes

Confirm the selected paper, PE coating, printing and intended food-contact conditions together. Exterior gold or silver metallic layers are decorative finishes and are not food-contact surfaces.

Practical questions

Before you specify.

What PE coating weight is available?

The current commercial range is 10–20 gsm per coated side.

Can you coat both sides?

Yes. Single-side and double-side PE structures are both available.

Which base GSM is normally used?

160–230 gsm is the common commercial range for regular cup converting, although heavier cupstock exists for other structures.

Do you sell cup fans?

Yes. Cup-fan cutting is available as a converting service for PE Coated Cupstock projects. Send the cup dimensions or cutting drawing for review.

How many printing colors can be arranged?

Up to 6-color printing can be discussed by project.

Can you make gold or silver cup exteriors?

Yes. Decorative gold / silver aluminium-foil exterior structures can be developed; the metallic side is not positioned as the food-contact surface.
